Full Description
Banked curvilinear features in Uddens Park are visible on aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise broad curvilinear banks that align broadly east to west within the open parkland associated with the former Uddens House, as recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2).
The features may be historic field boundaries, potentially of medieval date, although a later origin is possible. A possible alternative is that they are ploughed out former wood banks; the surrounding wodland shown on the OS 1 st Edition map suggests posible clearance to form the open parkland at Uddens House (2).
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery but with substantial boundary changes and re-modelling since 1946. The features are no longer visible, although the line of the southernmost of the two features may be fossilised by a later boundary (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
