Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features to the west and southwest of Brook Hill are visible on aerial photographs (1).
The features are considered to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible.
The features comprise narrow, predominantly rectilinear, ditches and banks that extend across and sub-divide irregular historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose slightly curvilinear boundaries are potentially medieval in origin (2).
The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin for some or all of the features is possible.
The site is still partially fields on current Google Earth imagery, with an extensive garden centre development to the west of Brook Hill. Some features remain visible but some are lost under the modern development. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
