Full Description
A sub-rectangular ditched enclosure in fields to the north of Long Lane Farm is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (1).
The feature is 70m long by 60m wide, with an enclosing 1.5m wide ditch. It is broadly rectangular in form, with slightly rounded corners and is aligned southwest to northeast irrespective of any adjacent historic field boundaries. A removed historic field boundary of possible post medieval date is visible crossing the northeast corner of the feature from north northwest to south south east. The relationship is not clearly defined but the former field boundary appears to overlie the feature, indicating a possible post medieval or earlier origin; an enclosure of this form could potentially date anywhere between the Neolithic and post medieval periods.
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
