Full Description

Ditched linear and curvilinear features to the west of Grange Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise narrow ditches of both rectilinear and curvilinear form. They sub-divide small irregular historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map; the enclosures are part of Grange and may be associated with a settlement of medieval origin (2).

The features are presumed to be historic field boundaries, potentially including some of medieval and some of post medieval origin.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery, although with some boundary and land-use change since 1946. Some features remain faintly visible.

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
