Summary

Parallel ridges and ditches in a field to the southeast of Higher Honeybrook Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are presumed to be cultivation marks, possibly those of medieval ridge and furrow, although a post medieval origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Parallel ridges and ditches in a field to the southeast of Higher Honeybrook Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise parallel ridges set around 5m part with 1.5m wide ditches in between. They occupy the whole of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose irregular curvilinear boundaries are potentially medieval in origin (2).
The features are presumed to be cultivation marks, possibly those of medieval ridge and furrow, although a post medieval origin is possible.

The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery and the features are still partially visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
