Please read our .

Summary

Banked and ditched linear and curvilinear features to the east of Higher Honeybrook Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features appear to be substantial earthworks that form a number of enclosures. They may be field boundaries of possible medieval date, potentially part of a small medieval farming settlement, although a later origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Banked and ditched linear and curvilinear features to the east of Higher Honeybrook Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise substantial curvilinear banked earthworks that potentially form a number of small enclosures. One longer narrower linear has a ditch along its north side. In the south of the group is a sub-rectangular banked mound, possibly a historic agricultural enclosure or possibly a building mound, although no evidence of any building is visible in 1946 (1). The features may be field boundaries of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. The features may be associated with a small medieval farming settlement, although this would bear proper investigation on the ground.

The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery and some of the features are still visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
