Full Description
A series of interlinking linear and curvilinear ditched featuresto the southeast of Higher Honeybrook Farm are visible as cropmarks on 1995 aerial photographs (1).
The features are situated in the northern section of a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose irregular curvilinear boundaries are potentially medieval in origin (2). The linear and curvilinear ditches appear to form a series of partial and irregular enclosures on a broad southeast to northwest alignment. This is the same as a further group of similar features (MDO40855) 200m to the southwest. It is possible that the features may be field boundaries and trackways associated with a field system of possible late prehistric origin; potentially Iron Age or Romano-British in date.
It is also possible, however, that the features are modern and agricultural in origin.
The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery but under plough in some years. The features are not visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
