Monument record MDO40870 - Historic field boundary, Honeybrook Farm, Holt

A banked curvilinear feature to the northeast of Honeybrook Farm is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery. The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary, possibly of medieval date although a later origin is also possible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A banked curvilinear feature to the northeast of Honeybrook Farm is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).

The linear bank is situated within an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries are likely to be predominantly medieval in origin (3). A 1947 aerial photograph shows the feature extending from the east side of the enclosure for 152m (1). Current Lidar imagery suggests the feature then curves round to the north to continue parallel to the enclosure boundary adjacent to the east (2 and 3). It appears to stop where it meets the enclsoure boundary to the north (2 and 3). The feature is presumed to also be a historic field boundary, possibly of medieval date although a later origin is also possible.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is still visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
