Monument record MDO40861 - Possible post medieval garden feature, High Hall, Pamphill

A low flat-topped square mound to the east of High Hall is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery. The feature may be a landscape garden feature of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

The feature is 36.7m wide by 38.3m deep with low outward sloping banks on its south, east and north sides and low retaining banks on top of these. The west side abuts a historic banked field boundary recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (3).

The feature may be a landscape garden feature of possible post medieval or early modern date, although an earlier origin is possible.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the feature remains visible as a low though less well-defined earthwork. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
