Monument record MDO40859 - Possible post medieval extractive pit, High Hall, Pamphill

A large scarped depression to the east of High Hall is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery. The feature may have originated as a post medieval extractive pit with subsequent re-use to house a post medieval saw pit; it is defined on the Os 1st Edition map as rough ground and trees and a saw pit is shown on its north side. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A large scarped depression to the east of High Hall is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).

The feature is irregular in shape and upt to 159m long by up to 87 wide. It is defined on the Os 1st Edition map as rough ground and trees and a saw pit is also shown on its north side (3).

The feature may have originated as a post medieval extractive pit with subsequent re-use to house a post medieval saw pit.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is clearly visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
