Please read our .

Summary

A banked curvilinear feature in a field to the north of Stone Farm is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. Alternatively it may be part of a post medieval trackway. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A banked curvilinear feature in a field to the north of Stone Farm is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature comprises a curving 40m long bank extending inwards from the east side of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose boundaries are potentially medieval in origin (2). The slightly curvilinear form of the feature also suggests a possible field boundary of possible medieval date but it appears to overlie ditched linear features which may be post medieval drainage features (MDO40846), giving it a potentially later origin. It may alternatively, therefore, be part of a post medieval trackway.

The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery but the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
