Summary

A shallow depression in a field on the north side of Burt's Hill, Wimborne Minster, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature may be a shallow extractive pit of post medieval date. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A shallow depression in a field on the north side of Burt's Hill, Wimborne Minster, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature is 43m long by 31.8m wide with shallow sides and a flat base. It is truncated on its west side by a field boundary of post medieval or early 20th century date. The feature is presumed to be an extractive pit of post medieval date.

The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is particularly visible in a 2002 aerial photograph (2). It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
