Monument record MDO40832 - Possible post medieval trackway, Dogdean, Colehill

A ditched linear feature in fields to the northwest of Dogdean, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is considered likely to be a historic trackway of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A ditched linear feature in fields to the northwest of Dogdean, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The feature is narrow and curvilinear in form and traverses a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries are potentially medieval in origin (2). It also crosses and post-dates an area of possible medieval ridge and furrow (MDO40809). The feature is presumed to be a historic trackway of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery but there has been much recent re-use and boundary changes and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
