Full Description

Ditched linear features in fields to the northwest of Dogdean, Colehill, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise a series of narrow rectilinear ditches within a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries are potentially medieval in origin (2). The features sub-divide the enclosure; the longest linear feature further respects the south side of an area of possible medieval ridge and furrow (MDO40809).

The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible.

The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery but there has been much recent re-use and boundary changes and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
