Full Description
Ditched linear features in fields to the west of Dean Grove, Colehill, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a series of narrow rectilinear ditches and one curvilinear ditch, largely set on a southwest to northeast alignment within a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries are probably medieval in origin (2). Some features run perpendicular to form small enclosures. Two of the ditched linears correspond with dispersed rows of trees recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, suggesting the line of former field boundaries (2).
The features are generally considered likely to be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible. Some features may alternatively be post medieval drainage ditches.
The site is still open ground but under trees on current Google Earth imagery and the features are not visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
