Full Description

Two areas of ridged cultivation marks on the west side of Colehill Lane are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise parallel ridges set between 4 and 5m apart with 1m to 1.3m wide ditches in between. The ridges are regular and straight in form and run parallel to adjacent historic field boundaries.
The features may be those of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow but it is also possible they are later in origin, perhaps the result of 19th century steam ploughing. In the southwesternmost of the two area the features appear to continue across where a short field boundary recorded on the OS 1st Edition map is removed by 1946, potentially indicating cultivation marks post c1880s in date.

The features are no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
