Full Description

A scarped hollow feature and small irregular banked mounds are visible in a field at Pilford, Colehill, on aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise a 39m by 28.5m sub-oval hollow with several small irregular mounds adjacent to its south side. The features are presumed to be a post medieval extractive pit and possible spoil heaps.

The features are still within open ground on current Google Earth imagery. They are not obviously visible but some years of Google Earth imagery have indistinct mottling of the soil and crops that may be associated with these, and possibly additional, features. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
