Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features at Canford Bottom, Colehill, are visible on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features are narrow and rectilinear in form. They sub-divide three irregular historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries broadly indicate a possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin for some of these boundaries is possible (3). The features broadly align with these historic boundaries and in at least two of the enclosures appear to overlie areas of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow cultivation (MDO40761). The features are therefore considered likely to be field boundaries of possible post medieval or later date.
The site is under housing on the west side of Hayes Lane on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
