Full Description

Ditched and banked linear features at Canford Bottom are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features are narrow and rectilinear in form and comprise a banked linear that extends between two historic field boundaries to sub-divide a large historic enclosure present on the OS 1st Edition map (2). Two further ditched linears in an adjacent historic enclosure to the east are aligned north to south either side of a field barn. These linears align with the adjacent historic field boundaries and also sub-divided that enclosure. The features are therefore presumed to be field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible.

The site is under housing on Cutlers Place and Jessopp Road on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
