Full Description
Areas of probable narrow ridge and furrow cultivation to the east of Leigh Common, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features comprise two irregular areas of parallel ridges set 3m apart and interset by 1m wide ditches. The two areas run counter to each other, one aligned east to west, the other north to south. The features are considered to be cultivation marks of probable post medieval origin, most likely narrow ridge and furrow. These were presumably contained by two separate enclosures at one time, although only one larger enclosure is present on the OS 1st Edition map (3).
The features are not visible on current Google Earth imagery, presumably superceded by later ploughing. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
