Summary

Bronze Age bowl barrow surviving as a low earthwork. In 1972 this monument was recorded as approximately 45 feet in diameter with a mound surviving some 1 foot high. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.

Full Description

Four ditchless bowl barrows. That to the west (RCHM No 17) is sited at ST 88901489. <2>

The Iwerne Hill Group comprises four barrows on the crest of the escarpment. All have been reduced by ploughing; (17) is in arable land, the others are under grass. (20) Bowl (ST 89081503), 40 yds N of (19); diam 45 ft, ht 1ft. <4>

All four barrows are now in arable land, and severely plough-reduced. ST 89091503 (RCHM No 20). The bowl barrow is represented by a heavy flint scatter, circa 13.0m diameter and 0.3m high surrounded by a circa 4.0m wide band of dark soil. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on AM. The barrows are not visible on OS air photographs. <5>
