Full Description
An area of historic cultivation on the west side of Northleigh Road, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise wide parallel ditches and ridges up to 9m apart with a 1m wide ditch and extending across a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The features are truncated on their western edge by a sub-square mound (MDO40677) of unidentified date and function but which may be a post medieval or modern garden feature.
The features may be those of medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although a later origin is also possible.
The features are still visible within open fields on 2012 Google Earth imagery (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
