Full Description
A possible post medieval clay pit to the southeast of Wimborne Minster is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises an elongated shallow depression 143m long and 11m wide at its southern end, widening to 40m at its northern end. The feature is located adjacent to the west side of a similar feature (MDO23476) recorded as 'Old clay pit'' on the OS 1st Edition map (2). It is presumed likely that the feature is also an out of use clay pit of probable post medieval origin.
The site is under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
