Summary

Areas of parallel ridges and ditches in fields at Rowlands are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are presumed to be historic cultivation marks; possibly medieval ridge and furrow, although a later, post medieval, origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Areas of parallel ridges and ditches in fields at Rowlands are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise parallel ditched linears around 5.5m from ridge top to ridgetop with 1.5m wide ditches. The features are considered likely to be historic cultivation marks; possibly medieval ridge and furrow, although a later, post medival, origin is also possible.

The site is redeveloped as housing on current Google Earth imagery and the featuresare no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
