Full Description

Ditched and banked linear features in fields on the north side of Stone Lane are visible on 1940s aerial photographs(1).

The features comprise a series of narrow rectilinear ditches and banks, set between 10m and 15m apart and parallel to each other, with one outlying rectilinear ditch to the north. Additional curvilinear ditched features run along the east side of these and adjoin their southwest side. A short t-section of ditch is visble to the east.

The features are considered to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible. Some of the features may alternatively be post medieval trackways.

The site was partially redeveloped by 1951 (2) and is part of the Stone Lane Industrial Estate on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
