Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features in fields to the north of Stone Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a curvilinear banked and ditched linear shown as a partially out of use field boundary on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The slightly curvilinear form of the features indicates a possible medieval origin. Perpendicular to the west is a shorter ditched linear visible as a cropmark on a 2005 aerial photograph (3). This feature may be more regular in form but corresponds with a slightly curvilinear boundary to the northwest, suggesting that it too may be of medieval date, although a later origin for this feature is also possible.
The site is within larger ploughed and cropped fields that have seen significant boundary removal on current Google Earth imagery. The features are still visible as cropmarks on 2005 Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
