Full Description

The faint ridges of parallel cultivation marks in fields adjacent to Stone Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise parallel ridges and ditches between 4m and 6m apart. In places they appear to overlie sinous field boundaries of possible medieval origin (MDO40616) and underlie more regular field boundaries of possible post medieval date (MDO40615). The features are presumed to be medieval ridge and furrow; possibly associated with the medieval hamlet of Stone (MDO33176).

An aerial photograph of 1951 shows significant boundary change and agricultural reorganisation (2). The site is ploughed and cropped fields on current Google Earth imagery, with significant boundary removal. The features are no longer visible.

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
