Full Description
Banked and ditched linear features to the north, east and west of Stone Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are typically narrow and rectilinear in form and interlink to form small enclosures. In places the features overlie areas of probable medieval ridge and furrow (MDO40617) and are presumed to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible. They may incorporate features associated with the medieval hamlet of Stone (MDO33176).
An aerial photograph of 1951 shows significant boundary change and agricultural reorganisation (2). The site is ploughed and cropped fields on current Google Earth imagery, with significant boundary removal. The features are no longer visible.
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
