Full Description

A cluster of sub-circular ditched features on the Avon floodplain to the southwest of Jumpers Common are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise two sub-circular depressions, one 5m across and around 0.5m deep and one 5m wide with a surrounding berm of upcast material around 1.4m widel. A third feature to the east of these comprises a 3m wide sub-circular depression with an elongated curvilinear bank 0.5m across and extending around the northwest side of the depression and continuing southeast on both sides.

The features may be possible 20th century bomb craters or alternatively could be of extractive origin; the features appear relatively fressh, suggesting that they are modern rather than post medival in date..

The site is within the rough ground of the golf course on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
