Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit and access track on the northeast side of Iford Road, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The extractive pit is 18m long by 10m wide and the track extends from the lane to the east, curving round north then south, entering the extractive pit on its east side. The track may be a later addition, showing signs of vehicle use; a shorter footpath branches off the access track on its west side and also leads to the extractive pit. A small area of possible extraction is present on the southeast side of the track, although this may be simply a clearing in the scrub.
The site was out of use by 1948 (2) and is a playing field and sports pitches on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
