Full Description

Banked and ditched linear features on the northeast side of Iford Road, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features align with, and potentially sub-divide, historic enclosures present on the OS 1st Edition map (2) and whose boundaries are potentially medieval in origin. They are presumed to be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible.

The site was a playing field by 1959 and a playing field and sports pitches are still visible on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
