Full Description
A modern water tank on the southeast side of Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a hollow circular structure 10.8m wide with 0.3m wide outer walls and a depth of around 1.3m. A 1.7m square ditched feature is situated within the structure adjacent to its northwest side.
The feature is situated within a grassed plot between two houses. It is presumed to be a wartime water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires. The site was demolished and built over by 1959 (2).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
