Full Description
A modern water tank on the corner of Kimberley Road and Beaufort Road, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a hollow rectangular structure 17.5m long by 8.5m wide with 1m wide outer walls and contained by a sloping grassed bank between 1m and 2m deep . The feature is further contained by a 0.3m wide perimeter wall. It is presumed to be a wartime water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires. The site was demolished and grassed over by 1959 (2).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
