Summary

Ditched linear earthworks at Winkton are visible on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs. The features are considered to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Ditched linear earthworks at Winkton are visible on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The features are predominantly narrow and rectilinear in character and they divide historic enclosures present on the Os 1st Edition map, whose boundaries are probably medieval in origin (3). The features align with some of these boundaries and are considered to also be historic field boundaries; probably post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible

The site is developed as housing on curretn Google Earth imagery. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
