Full Description

Narrow parallel ditched linear earthworks on the Avon River floodplain to the northeast of Christchurch are visible on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs (1 and 2).

The features are spaced around 3m apart and are contained within historic fields present on the OS 1st Edition map, whose boundaries are potentially medieval in origin. The features are considered to be historic cultivation marks, most likely post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although an earlier origin is possible.

The featrues are no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
