Full Description
A series of parallel ditched linear earthworks on the Avon river floodplain at Christchurch are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise short linears variously spaced between 4.5m and 18m apart and aligned southwest to northeast along the edge of a drainage channel present on the OS 1st Edition map (2). They are presumed to be historic drainage features of probable post medieval date.
The features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery and show particularly well on a 2002 aerial phoograph (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
