Full Description

Banked linear and curvilinear features at Purewell are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features predominantly align with historic field boundaries present on the OS 1st Edition map (2), with some shorter perpendicular linears forming smaller enclosures within the historic field divisions. The field pattern in this area is probably of medieval origin, with a series of narrow historic fields on the OS 1st Edition map indicating possible post medieval enclosure of former medieval strip field. The features are therefore considered likely to be historic field boundaries of possible medieval and/or post medieval origin.

The features are located within fields between the A35 and B3059 interchange but are not visible on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
