Full Description
A ditched linear feature to the northwest of Manor House, Wimborne St Giles, is visible as a cropmark on current Lidar imagery (1).
The feature runs SSE to NNW. At its southeast end it adjoins and aligns with a historic trackway present on the OS 1st Edition map (2). That trackway then heads northwest along the side of a field. This feature continues north northwest, continuing under a wide hedged field boundary towards a small historic farmstead. The feature is considered to be a trackway of probable medieval or post medieval origin, although an earlier date is possible as it is located adjacent to the northwest of a possible Iron Age or Romano-British field system (MDO40491). A trackway possibly associated with that system (but potentially of later origin) may have a junction at its southwest end with this trackway and the one shown on the OS 1st Edition map (2).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
