Full Description

Ditched linear features on Tenantry Down are visible as cropmarks on 1970s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise narrow broadly rectillinear ditches, some of whch run perpendicular to each forming regular divisions. Other ditched linears link with these and cross the downs on a southwest to northeast axis. The features are presumed to represent ditched trackways and possibly field boundaries of probable post medieval origin, although an earlier date is also possible. They run adjacent to, but appear to overlie, other ditched trackways (MDO40449 and MDO40451) of possible prehistoric to later medieval date, suggesting that they are probably later in origin.

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
