Summary

Two parallel linear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs running roughly due west from Knowlton Rings. The ditches are between 450m and 500m long and are approximately 100m apart. They are considered to be field boundaries of uncertain date and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

SU 0207 0994. An interrupted linear ditch, probably representing a Prehistoric or Roman field boundary, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The eastern end of this ditch lies close to the western side of the Knowlton South henge (SU 01 SW 101), and the ditch is parallel to a possible trackway located to the south (SU 00 NW 1). The single straight ditch is about 480m long. <1-2>

The features were mapped during English Heritage's Knowlton Circles Project and interpreted as prehistoric or Roman boundaries.
