Full Description
A post medieval chalk pit 58.3m by 52m on the west side of St Giles's Park is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2).
The chalk pit is shown as 'old chalk pit' on the OS 1st Edition map (3). It cuts the east side of an earlier banked field boundary (MDO40342) of possible medieval origin.
The feature is still visible and lined by trees on current Google Earth imagery. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
