Monument record MDO40254 - Prehistoric ring ditch, St Giles's Park, Wimborne St Giles

A penannular ring ditch at St Giles's Park is visible as a cropmark on 1989 aerial photographs. The feature is probably prehistoric in origin, possibly between Bronze Age and Iron Age in date. The ring ditch measures 52m in diameter, with a 3.6m wide ditch and a possible entrance to the north. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A rapid examination of air photography indicates the presence of three ring ditches, visible as cropmarks at:-
A - SU 03691176 [Note: This is this record - ie MDO40254]
B - SU 03751178 [recorded as SU 01 SW 159] [Note: This is MDO40255]
C - SU 03741173 (Pennanular, entrance facing North) [recorded as SU 01 SW 160]. [Note: This is MDO40256] <1-4>
