Full Description

A long banked and ditched earthwork at St Giles's Park is visible on current Lidar imagery (1). The earthwork comprises a scarped bank which runs west for 217m then turns 90 degrees to the south where it continues for 215m as a bank with a ditch on its is east side. This element of the feature is still visible on a 2014 aerial photograph (2).

The earthwork may be a garden feature associated with the formal post medieval gardens of St Gile's Park, possibly re-using an earlier feature, perhaps a trackway, of potentially prehistoric origin; this earliest feature may relate to linear features to the south (MDO40151) presumed to be associated with field boundaries and trackways of possible Iron Age or Romano-British origin..

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
