Full Description

SO 0284 1070. Two Bronze Age round barrows are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, and have been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The easternmost barrow is defined by a single circular ditch 16.1m in diameter and the westernmost, at SU 0281 1072, is defined by an incomplete ditch 15.7m in diameter. The barrows are part of the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. <1>

A sub-circular cropmark at Knowlton is visible on a 1976 aerial photograph <2>. The feature measures around 25m across and is truncated on its south side; presumably by a historic field boundary present as a dotted line on the OS 1st Edition map <3>. The feature may represent a small barrow, probably of Bronze Age origin but a later date is possible. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
