Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit at Rye Hill is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2). It is also still visible on a 2005 aerial photograph (3).
The extractive pit measures approximately 220m long by 120m wide. It is shown as gravel pit and old gravel pit on the 1st Edition, indicating that the southern extent had gone out of use by the late 19th century (4).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
