Full Description

SU 0300 1085. Seven small round barrows are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and have been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The barrows appear as plough levelled mounds with diameters ranging from 8.5m to about 15m. The largest barrow, at SU 0300 1085, is accompanied by traces of an external ditch and a small pit. The barrows are located among many larger Bronze Age barrows, and could be of similar date. However, their small size suggests that a later date is possible. A group of similar small barrows is located about 175m to the south. <1>

A sub-circular cropmark at Knowlton is visible on a 1995 aerial photograph <2>. The feature measures around 10.75m in diameter and appears to contain a small 2m in diameter pit or hollow off centre towards its southwest side. The feature may represent a small Bronze Age barrow. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
