Please read our .

Summary

Prehistoric ditch identified on aerial photograph. The ditch is approximately 380 metres long and has a roughly north-northeast to south-southwest alignment. The ditch appears to be part of a bigger feature visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and current Agency lidar imagery, a linear earthwork, perhaps a trackway, of probable later prehistoric date - this feature may be a continuation of the linear earthwork recorded under MDO5024. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

ST 93000711 to NE. Linear ditch on air photographs, overall length 380 m. <1-2>

Prehistoric ditch identified on aerial photograph. The ditch is approximately 380 metres long and has a roughly north-northeast to south-southwest alignment. The ditch is also recorded under NRHE Hob UID 871904.

The ditch appears to be part of a bigger feature visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and current Agency lidar imagery <3-5>. The feature comprises a broken series of linear ditches flanked along some sections by sections of linear banks on one or either side. The feature extends for over 965m on a north-northeast to south-southwest alignment and is considered likely to be a linear earthwork or dyke of probable later prehistoric date - this feature may be a continuation of the linear earthwork recorded under MDO5024. The earthwork is situated within an area of later prehistoric field system (MDO5144), which appears to respect it.

The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
