Full Description
ST 78640600. A grass covered mound, overall diameter 17.0m., and with a maximum height of 1.2m. The mound is crossed by a double fence along which runs the parish boundary. S.E. of the fence the mound is fairly well preserved but to the N.W. of the fence it has been ploughed down and averages 0.2m. high. There are vague traces of a ditch, but these are unsurveyable.
The mound is probably a bowl barrow; although a slight berm is visible on the SE, this may be the result of woodland clearance which has taken place on that side.
The position, on a straight and fairly level stretch of parish boundary does not seem to indicate a boundary mound. <1>
ST 787060. Round barrows [sic] N of Delcombe Wood, scheduled. <2>
ST 78637 106000. The feature is visible as a 7m by 9m sub-circular mound crossed by the fence line on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). A possible outer ditch just under 1m wide is faintly detactable on a 1945 aerial photograph (RAF 1945). The northern part of the feature is not detectable on lidar but the southern part appears to survive as a low mound and part of an outer ditch might just survive around the south side (EA 2018). The feature was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
