Full Description

SU 0244 1050. An oval enclosure of uncertain date is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch 19.2m x 11.6m, aligned northwest - southeast, with gaps in the west side and northeastern corner. It is associated with the Knowlton Circles group of monuments (SU 01 SW 44), lying to the north of Church Henge (SU 01 SW 102) and to the northeast of North Henge (SU 10 SW 103), and may represent a Neolithic mortuary enclosure or long barrow. <1>

A sub-oval cropmark on the northwest edge of the Knowlton Barrow Group is visible on 1990s and a 2014 aerial photograph. <2-4>

The feature measures 20m by 12.5 m and is enclosed by a single 1.5m wide ditch, which appears slightly 'waisted' at the centre, possibly indicating entrances. The feature may represent two conjoined barrows or a possible Neolithic oval barrow.

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
