Monument record MDO40044 - Prehistoric Enclosure, Knowlton, Woodlands

A small rectilinear enclosure is visible as a cropmark on 1990s aerial photographs. The feature is located on the northwest edge of the Knowlton Barrow Group and may represent an Iron Age square barrow. The feature was mapped by English Heritage's Knowlton Circles Project and digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

SU 0232 1052. A small rectilinear enclosure, possibly representing an Iron Age square barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch 5.1m x 4.8m. It is associated with an extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group (SU 01 SW 105). Another similar enclosure or square barrow lies 93.2m to the west (SU 01 SW 211). <3>

The enclosure measures 5.2m by 5.2m and is enclosed by a 0.2m wide ditch. It is located on the northwest edge of the Knowlton Barrow Group and has been interpreted as a possible Iron Age barrow (NHRE 1409904).

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
